Celebrating the Blackboard® Learn Ultra User Group’s 1st Year

Published

On April 20, 2023, the very first meeting of the Blackboard Learn Ultra User Group took place, with the topic “Unboxing Blackboard Ultra: What I Loved Right Away and What Took Time.” Thanks to the Anthology Community and our four User Group leaders—Mary Beth Scumaci, Julie Mulvey, Shelby Huddleston, and Paul Cave—this group has met 26 times in its first year!

Here is a snapshot of a few of our accomplishments together:

  • 2,516 total attendees joined those 26 meetings, with an average of 109 attendees per session. That’s a lot of valuable input!

  • To date, the group has 580 members from 21 different countries around the world.

  • Plus, we’ve been fortunate to feature 36 speakers from 26 institutions across 7 countries.

Who attended the most sessions?

Edge Hill University (UK) had the most team members registered in the group, followed by the University of Derby (UK).

Sarah Quist from Lakeland University (USA) has attended the highest number of sessions, followed by Laura Czerniak from Virginia Wesleyan University (USA).

In December 2023, we asked User Group members to reflect upon their experience with the Learn Ultra User Group through a Feedback Survey:

  • 98% said participating in the group is helpful.

  • 97% would recommend this user group to a colleague.

What do members like most about the Learn Ultra User Group?

Learning and collaboration: Learning from their peers, collaborating with other program users, and gaining insight into how others are using the available tools.

Diversity and variety: The diversity of backgrounds and experiences within the group, as well as the variety of topics discussed.

Global community: Colleagues from around the world, all on the same journey and facing similar challenges.

Growth and development: Opportunities to learn new things, meet new additions to the program, and get ideas for improving their own e-Learning experience.

Sharing and discussion: Sharing experiences, learning from each other, and benefiting from other perspectives.

THANK YOU!

“I hope that people will go away from the group having made a connection–it's something I do all the time. Connections are important and can be very rewarding. Being able to reach out to another community member to ask a question when you know you are doing the same thing is just simply fantastic.” - Julie Mulvey, Durham University

“My main objective as a leader in the Blackboard Learn Ultra User Group is to assist with the creation of a collegiate user group where Learn Ultra topics can be shared and discussed by users around the globe, as well as to help colleagues spotlight the amazing things they are doing in their own courses or within their institutions.” - Mary Beth Scumaci, Trocaire College

“I think that as a Learn Ultra User group leader, one of the things that I'm keen to do is to make sure that that voice of the sector is heard and that improvements are made because of that. It's useful for us as a community to come together, have discussions, and understand how as institutions we may do things differently. That can lead to continuous improvement within institutions.” - Paul Cave, University of Leeds

“I want to assist with bringing our user community together to celebrate and learn about the successes that others have had in their Ultra journey. One of the exciting parts of being one of the Blackboard Learn Ultra User Group Leaders is the opportunity to meet and learn about others who are part of the journey.” - Shelby Huddleston, Cowley College
