Speaker:
Julie Evans, CEO, Project Tomorrow
Following trends observed in the consumer marketplace, 83% of K-12 schools and districts are now leveraging mobile-enabled, social media tools for their school-to-home communications. This strong reliance upon new communications and engagement tools was further heightened during the recent school closures due to the pandemic. However, a complicating factor in the rollout of mobile apps and social media for communications is the existence of multiple generations within a district’s parent community including Baby Boomer, Gen X and Millennial parents as well as increasingly older grandparents serving as education guardians. This reality has significant implications for school districts as they envision, create and implement new strategies for engaging with parents.
In this presentation, we will share timely research results based upon the views of over 30,000 Millennial, Gen X and Baby Boomer nationwide during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. The results speak to the parents’ preferences by generation for engaging with their child’s teacher, hearing about school news, and receiving crisis or alert communications. Participants will gain access to a recent report published by Project Tomorrow and Blackboard on these important findings. From texting to Facebook posts, what really works for today’s parents in terms of school to home communications?
